Pre Amble
Hindsight is a luxurious perception. It allows us to punish ourselves for some decisions whilst, at the same time, forcing us to accept that the now in which we live is the result of the choices we made in the past.
Who of us has not felt the pangs of self recrimination for actions taken on the basis of what we ‘knew then’ simply because we ‘know better’ now.
The simple fact of the matter is that we always do the best we can at the time with the information and personal resources we have at our disposal. At some later date we may know more, have more life experience or simply want different things so it is never really fair to beat our ‘past selves’ for choices a ‘current self’ would not have made.
So when we begin to unpick our personal histories and re-discover our past memories there must always be an awareness of the judgements we are making now which we could not have made then.
