What do I do…?
So what does a Psychic Entertainer, Psychological Illusionist or Mind Magician actually do?
The simplest answer is MESS WITH YOUR MIND!
As an entertainer I will use a range of psychological, magical, theatrical, scientific and ‘psychic’ techniques to create mystifying experiences.
As a performer with a genuine interest in the mind (an NLP Master Practitioner, Hypnotist and Psychotherapist) and a background in science (BSc and PhD) withan understanding of conjuring techniques (member of the Magic Circle, Society of American Magicians and award winning performer, writer and developer of magic) I can bring a depth to any performance and create theatre which is as memorable as it is uncanny. Couple this with a international reputation as a speaker and lecturer on the mind, behaviour and esoteric traditions such as Tarot, Astrology, Qabalah and other mystical traditions each and every performance can be constructed to work on many different levels.
I am person fascinated by the mind and the breadth of human experience and a performer who seeks to challenge perceptions and limits to understanding.
In the UK the name Derren Brown has become synomymous with the notion of Mind Control and Suggestion. Those of us in the profession we recognise that he is following on and developing a tradition of theatrical performances which have been popular for decades. Exponents of this art include: Fogel, Al Koran, Kreskin, Banachek, The Amazing Randi, The Pinningtons, Dunninger and many many more.
Derren has clearly influenced the world of magic and psychological illusion and we are seeing more and younger clones perporting to be ‘masters of the mind’… they may well be… but some are tricksters who have recognised the popularity of the art but have themselves never really studied or understood it. In a world of deception, such as is that of the magician, it seems strange to be talking about those whose credentials are deceptive….
One thing that Derren and ALL of my fellow mind magicians have in common is intellectual credibility, performance maturity and originality.
